When I first thought about starting a business, one question kept me stuck: how do I write a business plan without spending months learning all the business school jargon? I do not have an MBA, and honestly, the thought of creating a long, formal plan was intimidating.
Then I realised I could use GPT as my business coach. In just a few days, I went from a vague idea to a clear, structured plan I could share with partners and potential investors. Here is exactly how I did it.

Why GPT Was the Perfect Partner
Writing a business plan is not just about filling in templates. You need to explain your idea clearly, prove there is a market, and outline a strategy to make it real. GPT made this process easier by:
Asking the right questions to clarify my thinking
Giving me professional wording for my ideas
Helping me organise sections into a logical order
Suggesting details I had not considered yet
It felt like having a business mentor on call, 24/7.
Step 1: Explaining My Idea to GPT
I started with the simplest step. I typed:
“I have an idea for [describe your business]. Can you help me write a business plan that includes the problem, solution, target audience, revenue model, marketing plan, operations plan, and financial forecast?”
This one question gave me a solid outline within minutes. It was not perfect, but it gave me a clear starting point.
Step 2: Building Each Section
I then worked through the plan section by section.
Problem and Solution: I described the pain my audience faces and how my business solves it. GPT reworded it into a compelling statement I could use in a pitch.
Target Audience: I asked GPT to create two detailed customer profiles with goals, challenges, and buying habits. This helped me see exactly who I was building for.
Revenue Model: I requested examples of pricing models and chose one that fit my product. GPT even created a quick comparison chart.
Marketing Plan: I gave GPT my budget and asked for a 90-day plan. It included content ideas, social media strategies, and partnership suggestions.
Operations Plan: I had GPT outline the steps to deliver my product, from production to customer support, including the tools I might need.
Financial Forecast I provided my basic numbers, and GPT created three scenarios: conservative, expected, and optimistic.
Step 3: Refining the Language
GPT can write in different tones. I asked it to make my plan sound professional but easy to read. It removed unnecessary jargon and made each section clear, which was important because I wanted potential partners to understand it quickly.
Step 4: Getting a Shareable Document
Once all the sections were ready, I asked GPT to combine them into one document with headings, short paragraphs, and bullet points. I copied it into a Word file, adjusted the formatting, and had my first complete business plan ready to share.
What I Learned
Using GPT to create my business plan saved me time and removed the fear of starting. I still had to provide the ideas, numbers, and direction, but GPT handled the heavy lifting in terms of structure and language.
You do not need an MBA to create something professional and actionable. You just need a clear vision, your unique insights, and the right prompts.
